  I live in a JW apartment complex - does anyone else here also live in one?

  Anyone else out there live in or know of primarily JW apartment complexes?

  Never have I heard of such a thing! Amazing. The implications are staggering.

  First I would be sure it would be *just* like Paradise! Brothers and sisters living together "watching out" for each other (to sin). Peaceful harmony with the animals (although they are of the six-legged, arthropodic variety due to all the excess moisture from faulty plumbing).

  That whole line about "you aren't supposed to complain" is so lame. I rent to a JW (just by chance, I didn't plan for it) and if the air goes out, I fix it. If the plumbing leaks I fix it. If he doesn't pay the rent, he'd be out on his arse. See: it's a mutual thing. I'm sure there would be little leeway for you if you opted to not pay the rent. Or would they "not complain" about that either.

  Is this for real or just some local phenomenon?

  This seems to be a common misconception (or at best a secondary meaning). I'm sure the original folks who associated Borg with JWs meant it not as Brooklyn Organization but rather as a reference to Star Trek: Next Generation. The Borg on STNG are a really good metaphor for the WTS. They only think as a collective about the collective. All contrary cultures will be assimilated or destroyed. "Resistance is futile" is thier mantra.

  Sound familiar? ;-)

  I can only imagine someone thought it a clever coincidence that it could also be an abbreviation for Brookyln Organization.

  I'm REALLY not a Trekkie! I do watch the movies. BTW: The new one coming out soon looks pretty cool.

  he stood up for himself admirably.

  she left him alone - but she's back at it again like a bad dream that just won't quit !

  He has "new age ideas"? There are plenty of JWs who are huge on the holistic healings that I have run across. "Is he joining a cult?" God, I almost laughed my laptop off my lap on that one. What kind of clutish thinking is she worried about? We are right and everyone else is wrong and doomed to die? Or, we are God's channel for truth. Or, nevermind planning for your future sucess. The end is coming really soon. Uh, yeah, like in a few years. Blah, blah, blah, what total noise.

  At the point she called him demonic I would have tuned out too. Granted, it's a little hippish, new age-y for my blood, but I love to see the beauty in the world. Who can fault him for wanting to do that?

  What a looney. Fortunately you raised a man who can think for himself even under the onslaught of an authority figure like his own mother.

  keeping a straight face during the song is hard enough given the wacky lyrical content; the last thing i need is the "new sister" standing right behind me and loudly delivering a breathy, lispy, over-dramatic rendition of "stay asleep stand firm grow culty".

  simon cowell is not listening in.

  or how about that one guy every hall has who bawls the songs out, painfully out of tune, way louder than anyone else.

  As a pre-teen JW I had a friend whose mom would practice singing the songs the day before the meeting. I recall her having less talent and more treacle coated melody. I guess she could hold a note pretty well. I hit the puberty and sounded like a sick bullfrog. I hated singing those songs.

  I just watched an episode of A&E's Intervention. It was about Phillip (Season 5) an alcholic. http://www.aetv.com/intervention/int_episode_guide.jsp

  Anyway, during the episode he is at his sister's house and they are discussing how no one should take him to get liquor. Around that time, you can see the refrigerator with a Memorial invite stuck to it among other things. I definitely could tell it was the 2008(?) invite since it was the face of jesus close-up, looking down. I'm sure there was a thread with it in it around that time. There were no other obvious signs of JWs in that ep. From what I could tell, Phillip did not appear to be a JW. He had some Roman Catholic looking pictures of Christ on his wall and his girlfriend wore a cross. Perhaps only his sister has a connection to the Witnesses.

  Anyway, Phillip did get the help he needed. I hope the guy stays sober. His daughter loves him and needs a sober dad.
